The Simulations Team here at Kongsberg NanoAvionics is actively seeking a curious and highly motivated Simulations Engineer, specialising in Thermal Analysis. As an integral member of our dedicated and innovative team, you will play a vital role in contributing to the design and development of nano and micro satellites.
As Thermal Analysis Engineer you will:Work closely with the business development team to conduct thermal control system sizing, feasibility checks, and trade-off studies at the pre-contract stage, ensuring alignment with project goalsPropose and develop reliable thermal control system solutions that guarantee sub-systems are maintained within their operational temperature ranges, optimising performance and longevityPerform thermal analysis at both the spacecraft and sub-system levels, applying expertise to foresee and address potential challengesSupport real world thermal testing by preparing necessary test documentationCorrelate simulation models with test and in-orbit data to enhance the accuracy and reliability of simulations, contributing to continuous improvement and validation of modelsCollaborate seamlessly with colleagues across various departments and payload suppliers to collect essential input information required for precise and meaningful thermal simulationsPrepare and organise comprehensive documentation to present your findings and insights to colleagues from other departments as well as customers, communicating technical information in an accessible mannerEngage with international suppliers to procure vital thermal control system components, managing relationships and ensuring quality and timelinessThe ideal candidate will also take ownership of the procurement, testing, and physical integration of thermal control components. Responsibilities include adhesive bonding of SLI materials, installation and fastening of thermal straps, and verification of thermal hardware performance through laboratory testingWe expect you to have:A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or a similarly related fieldA good understanding of thermodynamics, heat transferExperience conducting spacecraft system level thermal analysis simulations using an industry standard code – ideally Systema-Thermica (although it could be COMSOL, ESATAN etc.)CAD software proficiency – ideally SolidWorksAdvance knowledge of MS OfficeThe ability to work well both as part of a team and independentlyA growth mindset – be able to learn quickly and undertake new challengesNice to have:Previous work experience in the space sectorA good understanding of orbital mechanicsThermal testing knowledge, for example, writing thermal balance test plansThermo-elastic deformation analysis experienceFamiliarity with ECSS and NASA standards & handbooksProgramming skills (Python, VBA)Salary:Starting from 2300-4000 euros gross/ a monthThe final offer will depend based on the level of competencies and experienceApply
