Description

Space Rider Payload Aggregate Officer in the Space Rider Programme, Flight Programmes Department, Directorate of Space Transportation.

In your role of Space Rider Payload Aggregate Officer, you will report to the Space Rider Programme Manager and will be responsible for managing the payload aggregate of Space Rider, interacting with a range of aspects relating to the system, flight and ground segment.

You will be fully integrated into the Space Rider project team and will cooperate closely with the Flight and Ground Segment teams while also being part of the Vega and Space Rider Integrated Project Team.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • following up the technical preparation of the payload aggregate, payload accommodation and flight operations studies conducted by the industrial prime contractor;
  • managing and preparing the payload aggregate documentation throughout the design, development and qualification of the product;
  • managing, following up and preparing all the aggregate mission technical documentation for flight preparation, flight operations and post-flight phases, including system budgets and interface documentation, monitoring the prime contractor-defined vehicle service capabilities, and distribution and optimisation of the vehicle resources in accordance with the payload mission needs;
  • following up and managing current and future service development contracts placed and in preparation for the improvement of Space Rider system services to payloads;
  • following up potential and acquired customer payloads for current and future aggregates;
  • supporting the Space Rider Payload and Exploitation Manager for the definition and evolution of Space Rider Exploitation logic, including support for the preparation of the necessary formal documentation and discussion and follow-up for finalisation with the relevant internal and external entities;
  • supporting the Payload and Exploitation Manager in the development and refinement of the Space Rider system business model and the definition of evolved services to customer payloads;
  • contribution to the analysis of multi-purpose cargo-bay aggregate financial assessments for maiden flights and projections for subsequent flights;
  • contribution to the preparation of internal and external papers and project documentation;
  • contribution to the Section’s reporting on your area of responsibility.

Moreover, you will be required to provide:

  • technical support to the flight and ground segments for payload data handling and for avionics aspects related to system electrical ground support equipment, including interface definition and data budget consistency, unit-level electrical testing and qualification follow-up, software validation and verification activities, and programmatic coordination through progress monitoring and interface management across the customer chain.

Education and professional experience

A master's degree in engineering or a related discipline is required for this post together with 10 years of relevant professional experience.

Additional requirements

  • A structured and organised approach to work, including attention to detail
  • Capacity to work under pressure and to cope with stress and deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams and to interface with a wide range of technical stakeholders
  • Previous experience in the Space Rider activities as well as knowledge and proven experience of space business activities would be assets for the position

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
