Postdoctoral Researcher – Asteroid Seismology
Institut Superieur de l'Aeronautique et de l'Espace (ISAE)Toulouse, France
ContractOn-siteResearch
Location: ISAE-SUPAERO, Toulouse, France
Contract: Postdoctoral position, full time
Salary: €3,495 to €3,643 gross/month depending on experience
Required degree: PhD
Join the Space Systems for Planetary Applications (SSPA) team in ISAE-SUPAERO's Electronics, Optronics and Signal Department (DEOS). You will research asteroid seismology to prepare the interpretation of data from the RAMSES/SIA mission, and support archiving of SIA instrument data.
Research (70%)
- Develop and run numerical models of seismic wave propagation in low-gravity, granular or rubble-pile asteroid environments
- Investigate seismic source mechanisms relevant to small bodies, including tidal-generated seismicity
- Model how asteroid internal structure (porosity, layering, rubble-pile structure) affects seismic wave attenuation, scattering and propagation velocities
- Help supervise student research projects
- Analyse findings with the team, prepare publications and present at conferences
Data archiving support (30%)
- Prepare, format and validate data products for ESA's Planetary Science Archive (PSA), following PDS4 standards
- Build and maintain pipelines that convert instrument data into archive-ready formats
- Coordinate with ESA and the PSA through the review and certification process
- Train and assist group members in data handling and archiving practices
