PhD Fellowship in Astrophysics
The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) invites applications for four PhD fellowships in Astrophysics within the CELESTE (Cutting Edge Leap to Excellence in Space and Optics Technologies) Teaming project.
Successful candidates will be based at IACTEC's headquarters in La Laguna, Tenerife, and are expected to work towards a PhD at the University of La Laguna (ULL).
Research areas include: Solar Physics · Planetary Systems · Stellar & Interstellar Physics · Galaxy Formation & Evolution · Milky Way & Cosmology · Astroparticle Physics
📋 Requirements
Degree in Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering
Minimum grade of 7.0/10 (BSc+MSc: 7.5/10)
Degree obtained on or after January 31, 2023
Meets ULL PhD programme admission requirements (MSc, or BSc with ≥300 ECTS of which ≥60 at MSc level)
B1 English (or Spanish for native English speakers)
💰 Salary
Year 1–2: €21,729/year
Year 3: €22,918/year
Year 4: €27,979/year
Postdoctoral bridge period (up to 12 months): €29,684/year
Up to €2,500 relocation support available for candidates moving to Tenerife.
📅 Contract
4-year contract, renewable annually based on progress review. Candidates who complete their PhD early transition to a paid Postdoctoral Training Period (POP) of up to 12 months.
Start date: after November 15, 2026
