Postdoc Distributed Spaceborne Radar Systems

ContractOn-siteResearch

Location: Delft, Netherlands (Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Space Systems Engineering)
Type: 2-year postdoc, 36–40 hours/week
Salary: €3,706 – €5,760
Application deadline: 15 October 2026

Join TU Delft to advance spaceborne radar systems in the Netherlands. This 2-year postdoctoral position is part of NL-RIA 2.0, the Dutch network on small spaceborne radar instruments and applications, funded by the Netherlands Space Agency (NLSA). The network focuses on breakthrough technologies for miniaturized radar missions, leveraging trends in low-cost distributed space systems.

Job description

You will work closely with NL-RIA partners to:

  • Derive high-level user requirements for two classes of radar instruments: distributed SAR and near-nadir looking interferometric imagers
  • Evaluate fractionated space systems for suitability as radar instruments
  • Develop system requirements and system concepts
  • Support network activities: market survey, technology/applications inventory, proposal preparation, coordination meetings and international workshops

You will be based primarily in the Section of Space Systems Engineering (SSE), which focuses on end-to-end spacecraft engineering with an emphasis on distributed and miniaturised space systems.

Requirements

  • PhD in engineering (aerospace engineering, electronics or related fields)
  • Proven experience in space mission design and space systems engineering, ideally in distributed space systems (formation flying or in-orbit assembly)
  • Basic knowledge of Earth observation or radar technologies; radar-based observation experience ideal
  • Ideally, direct experience in multi-entity project management

Apply online with CV (including publications/DOI links) and motivational letter addressed to Dr. Jian Guo. Email/postal applications are not processed.
