Innovation Project Manager Aerospace & Defence
About the Role
Starburst, a leading aerospace and defense innovation accelerator, is seeking an Innovation Project Manager to lead flagship innovation and accelerator programs for corporate and institutional clients while supporting the growth of emerging technology startups.
This role combines project management, business development, and strategic advisory responsibilities, requiring the ability to operate at the intersection of program delivery, ecosystem engagement, and startup scaling within the aerospace and defense sector.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation Program & Project Management
Lead and oversee the full lifecycle of innovation and accelerator programs, from strategic planning to execution and delivery.
Ensure programs are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with strategic objectives.
Manage and mentor a team of 2–3 professionals, fostering collaboration and performance development.
Oversee day-to-day operations, milestone tracking, and stakeholder coordination.
Implement project management best practices to ensure high-quality program delivery.
Coordinate with startups, corporates, public institutions, and internal stakeholders to maximize program impact.
Build and maintain strong client relationships and adapt programs to deliver measurable value.
Organize workshops, demo days, conferences, and ecosystem events to increase visibility and engagement.
Business Development & Strategic Partnerships
Develop relationships with corporate and institutional partners to identify collaboration and business opportunities.
Monitor and respond to EU tenders and calls for proposals (e.g., EDF, EDIP).
Coordinate proposal preparation and internal responses for public funding opportunities.
Identify and qualify strategic partners including industrial primes, institutions, investors, and ecosystem stakeholders.
Maintain strong relationships across the European aerospace and defense innovation ecosystem.
Startup & Ecosystem Support
Support early-stage and scale-up startups in developing growth and go-to-market strategies.
Conduct due diligence and evaluate the strategic and commercial potential of startups.
Contribute to the development and animation of the aerospace and defense innovation ecosystem.
Support initiatives that increase program participation, engagement, and visibility.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate combines strong project management capabilities with experience in business development and innovation environments.
Required Qualifications
5–8 years of professional experience.
Experience in:
Business development (B2B or B2G) within aerospace and defense, or
Innovation management within deep tech environments.
Strong interest in aerospace, defense, and dual-use technologies.
Excellent stakeholder management and project coordination skills.
Degree from a top business school or engineering school.
Native-level French proficiency.
Ability to work in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
Must reside in an EU member state and have the right to work in the EU.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with EU institutions and European funding programs.
Understanding of the European defense and institutional landscape.
Dual degree in business and engineering.
