Fully Funded PhD in Advanced Data Compression & Compact Data Structures
About the Position
The Group on Interactive Coding of Images (GICI) at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) invites applications for a fully funded PhD student position. This role is part of the research project PID2024-156292OB-I00, focused on developing efficient compression systems for next-generation scientific data, including data from synchrotrons, DNA sequencing, and space exploration.
Project Overview
The project aims to improve the performance, scalability, and operability of encoding techniques for large-scale scientific datasets. You will explore novel compression methodologies (classical and AI-based) and compact data structures to optimize data storage, retrieval, and analysis. The work will emphasize compressed data structures, enabling in-place operations for applications like genomic analysis and pattern-matching.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of lossless and lossy compression methods.
Focus on compact data structures for large-scale comparative genomics.
Collaborate on theoretical and practical advancements in data compression and pattern-matching algorithms.
