Yuri is a space biotech company that uses microgravity to develop and manufacture superior biotech products. The team of 30+ space engineers and biologists has worked on 20+ payloads for the International Space Station with partners including NASA, ESA, GSK and Charité Berlin.
Your mission
As an Analysis and Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering analysis and simulation of innovative hardware for microgravity research and space biotech applications. Your main focus will be on structural and thermal analysis and space safety engineering, with the opportunity to also contribute to CFD. A particularly important part of the role is assessing hardware safety and structural integrity for spaceflight — including fracture mechanics and crack growth, and supporting compliance with NASA, ESA and ISS safety requirements.
Your tasks
- Structural & Thermal Simulation: FEA (static strength, stiffness, modal, buckling, vibration, fatigue) and steady-state/transient thermal analyses using ANSYS (or comparable). Knowledge of ESACRACK/NASGRO is beneficial.
- Space Safety: Lead the safety review process with NASA, ESA, SpaceX and implementation partners in Phases 0/I/II/III and re-flight assessments (SSP 30599 or similar).
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with NASA (e.g. SSP 57000, SSP 51721) and relevant ECSS Q-40 safety requirements; prepare analysis/verification documentation.
- Design Optimization: Correlate simulation with test data; work with mechanical/systems engineers to translate requirements into verifiable designs.
- CFD (optional but preferred): Thermal and fluid management analyses.
- Support design modifications in CAD (SolidWorks) and contribute to PDR, CDR, TRR and qualification activities.
What you need
- Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or similar
- Several years of professional experience in structural/thermal simulation in aerospace or highly regulated sectors
- Strong proficiency in ANSYS Mechanical/Workbench; good SolidWorks knowledge
- Experience with spaceflight safety engineering, hazard analyses and fracture mechanics tools (highly desired)
- Familiarity with NASA SSP or ECSS standards (highly desired)
- Fluent English (German a plus)
