Lead Engineer / System Engineer for Space Mechanisms (m/f/d)
At LEOspace, we're at the forefront of developing cybertronic actuators and advanced drive technologies for space applications. Our mission is to push the boundaries of what's possible, advancing both technological innovation and industrial manufacturing in the space sector.
Responsibilities
As a Systems Engineer at LEOspace, you will define and manage the architecture of advanced cybertronic actuator systems for space applications. You will drive cross-domain integration across electronics, mechanics and software, ensuring design integrity from concept to orbital deployment.
Define system requirements and architecture based on mission needs and stakeholder input.
Drive key design decisions across the whole subsystem.
Apply a simultaneous engineering approach to balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Oversee the full system lifecycle—from concept and development to qualification and deployment.
Prepare technical documentation and support testing from prototype to flight-ready hardware.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in systems engineering, aerospace, mechatronics, or a related technical field.
Proficiency in handling technical requirements: authoring, reviewing, and interpreting specifications.
Strong analytical skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools as well as agile development processes.
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Senior role requirements:
3+ years in system or mechanism engineering, preferably in the space sector.
Demonstrated application of MBSE in active development projects, including system modeling, simulation, and requirements traceability.
Practical experience working in agile environments, including participation in sprints, backlog grooming, and cross-functional coordination.
Proven capability in system integration, testing, and qualification of space-grade hardware.
Experience in technical leadership, coordination of engineering teams, or mentoring roles.
Bonus Qualifications:
In-depth knowledge of space hardware development workflows, from concept to flight readiness.
Expertise in material selection and manufacturing processes for space environments.
Familiarity with relevant standards and frameworks (e.g., ECSS, ISO 15288, NASA GEVS).
Experience with hybrid system development approaches (e.g., combining Agile with V-model or stage-gate processes).
